High Voltage
Nickel-zinc battery (NiZn) has an open circuit voltage of 1.8 volts when fully charged and a nominal voltage of 1.6V. This makes NiZn an excellent replacement for electronic products that were designed to use alkaline batteries (1.5V).
NiCd and NiMH rechargeable battery both have nominal cell voltages of 1.2V, which may cause some electronic equipments to shut off prior to a complete discharge of the battery because the minimal operating voltage is not provided.
NiCd and NiMH rechargeable battery may damage your device if the device does not have current control or if it is not built for high current. From the electrical power equation: P = V x I, where power P is in watts, voltage V is in volts and current I is in amperes (DC), a 1.2V battery will discharge higher current compare to a 1.5V battery to obtain the same power.
